Pak PM Approves Islamic Law In Swat Valley
Saturday, February 4th, 2012Swat valley in Northwestern Pakistan has been in the centre of controversy owing to a Pro-Taliban outfit demanding imposition of Islamic law in the valley. Last night, Pakistan Prime mInister, Asif Ali Zardari, approved Islamic law in Swat valley for exchange of peace. The Pro-Taliban outfit has declared that it will end fighting with the military in the swat valley as Islamic law had now been imposed. The militants have banned girls’ education and burned schools in the swat valley till now.
Richard Holbrooke has said that he is troubled by the developments in the swat valley. The move has also elicited criticism from Sherry Rehman, a lawmaker from the ruling party. She has raised questions about the wisdom of handing over the area to non state actors.
