Helicopter Crash
Monday, January 12th, 2009A transport helicopter crashed into the North Sea after its main rotor gearbox failed and the blades separated from the aircraft and the tail was slices off. All the 16 people died when the helicopter went down when it was on its way to Aberdeen after taking off from a gas platform. A witness from a supply vessel heard the helicopter and also saw it rapidly descend ultimately to crash into the sea. A fast rescue boat was launched towards the area of accident and the water was said to be disturbed and it contained debris of the helicopter roughly around 150m in diameter.
